Words from the artist:
Abundance is constant in our lives. It shows up in many different ways. Tangible. Intangible. Spiritual. Emotional. Mental. Physical. These images represent the ways women in my life and myself experience more than plenty. The overflow does not go unnoticed. Reasonably, it invokes the feeling that informs the behavior. Regardless of the response, I’ve come to find how I react to more than I need is heavily influenced by my identity as a Black woman. I am learning we have sovereignty over what we create with our abundance. These images tell the story of a Black woman’s relationship with abundance using repurposed flowers, honeycomb, a purple royal pillow, and beautiful Black hands adorned with expertly fashioned nails designed and created by a Black woman. Representing a Black woman’s divine gift to make use of everything, give sweetness and nourishment, share her abundance with the world, her family, friends and community, and keep some for herself!
A special thank you to Harper’s Parlour. When I shared my vision and invited her to collaborate, she graciously accepted my invitation and created these visually stunning nails on her very beautiful self! It was remarkable to see and a pleasure to photograph.
Thank you for your support!
