Kwaku Osei

Kwaku Osei’s installation, “Fuck You Pay Us’ examines and questions the artifice of value as it pertains to global economics and its relationship to the African diaspora. For 500 years black people across the globe have been fighting for civil rights without the accommodation of economic development and partnership. In a world where capital has proven to shift power, Kwaku’s work asks the question why the powers that be seem so hesitant to distribute equity amongst the people of African descent.

This intentionally provocative installation serves as a small peek into the bias of cultural value and its blatant disregard of certain histories. Through iconography, material metaphors, and irony, Kwaku’s work reimagines a world where black people actualize their value in abundance through methods of atonement that ultimately restore global balance.
